How a commission runs

The Design Process

Six stages, two approvals, one written quote. No deposit until you have seen a drawing.

Commissioning a piece should feel like working with a jeweller, not filing a ticket. Here is exactly what happens, in order, with the decisions you are asked to make at each stage.

01 — The brief

Send photographs, a stone, or a description. We ask three questions that decide most of the design: what finger (or neck, or wrist) it is for, how wide you want the band, and whether the stone already exists. If you have a stone, its millimeter size matters more than its carat weight.

02 — Written quote

Within one business day you get a quote that separates metal weight, stone specification, setting work and any extras. It also states the lead time. There is no charge for the quote and no deposit until you approve the CAD.

03 — CAD render

We draw the piece at true scale and send three views: face, profile and three-quarter. The profile matters most — it is where a ring looks cheap or expensive, and it is the view most catalogues hide. Two revision rounds are included; further rounds are charged at cost.

04 — Wax model

A 1:1 printed wax arrives in the post, or we photograph it next to a ruler if you prefer to save time. Wear it for an hour. This is the last moment to change the width or the height of the head, because after this we cast.

05 — Casting and setting

Casting happens in-house, then filing, pre-polish, and hand setting. The center stone goes in last, after polishing, so no polishing compound ends up under the stone. We photograph the piece at setting and before dispatch.

06 — QC and dispatch

Every stone is pressed for security, the finished weight is checked against the quote, and the dimensions are checked against the drawing. The parcel ships insured and tracked, with the certificate and a care card.

What can still change late

Engraving, finish (mirror, brushed, satin) and stone setting depth can change up to the day of setting. Band width, head height, stone count and metal cannot change after the wax is approved — those require a new casting, and we will tell you the cost before starting.

What it costs to start

Nothing. The quote and the first CAD are free. If you cancel after approving the CAD, we charge for the CAD time and any stones already sourced; the amount is stated in the quote before you approve anything.

How long does a custom piece take?+

Quote in one business day, CAD in 3–6 days, wax in 7–10, finished piece 12–18 business days after you approve the CAD. Complex hand engraving or matched stone sets take 21–25 days.

Do I have to pay before I see the design?+

No. The quote and the first CAD render are free. A 50% deposit is due only after you approve the CAD, and the balance before dispatch.

Can I change the design after I approve the CAD?+

Yes, up to the wax stage — two revision rounds are included. After the wax is approved, dimensions and stone placement are fixed because the piece is cast from that model.

What if I do not have a stone yet?+

We source it. Tell us the shape, millimeter size and budget, and we will send photographs and prices of available stones before designing the mounting.

Can you work with a stone I already own?+

Regularly. Send photographs and its measurements; if it needs to be shipped, we issue a reference number and the insured address first. We photograph it on arrival so there is a record of its condition.

Do you make men’s rings and signets?+

Yes — bands from 3 mm to 10 mm, domed or flat, brushed or black finishes, plus signets with hand engraving, inlay and stone-set faces.

Can you copy a design I saw somewhere?+

We can design something in the same spirit. We do not reproduce another brand’s proprietary design exactly, and we will tell you if a request is too close to a protected design.

Do you take rush orders?+

Sometimes. Rush production is possible for a fee depending on the bench load — ask before ordering, not after. We will say no rather than promise a date we cannot hold.
