Stone Sourcing

We have been buying stones in Wuzhou since 2011, which is the only real qualification for sourcing them. What that means for you is that we can tell you when a stone is a bad idea, not just when it is available.

What we hold

• Moissanite — round, oval, pear, emerald, cushion, radiant, marquise, princess, asscher, heart, in calibrated sizes from 1 mm to 12 mm.
• Lab-grown diamonds — IGI-certified rounds and fancy shapes, D–H color, VS and better, 0.3 ct and up.
• Lab-grown color — sapphire, ruby, emerald, spinel and fancy colors, calibrated for pairs.
• Calibrated CZ — for samples and production runs, sorted to 0.1 mm.

Matched pairs

Earrings need stones matched in millimeter size, color and cut. We match by hand and record the measurements; if we cannot find a pair good enough, we say so rather than sending two stones that are "close".

What we check

Girdle thickness under a loupe, bow-tie in ovals and pears, windowing in emerald cuts, and color under daylight-equivalent lamps rather than office light. A stone that looks fine on a monitor can be gray in daylight.

Certificates

GRA for moissanite, IGI on request for lab-grown diamond. If a certificate matters for insurance or resale, tell us before we select the stone — the certificate has to be chosen with the stone.
